A friend asked me to explain to him how social media could help his wife’s online shop. After I replied, I thought that my reply would make a great post on Hemiweb! So here it is.
The basic principle of online marketing is to get your name seen anywhere and everywhere.
If you have a lot of repeat customers then social media will work really well.
Course of action:
Get an account for Twitter for your company.
Get a fan page on Facebook.
Start posting. What she will want to do is to make sure any specials are advertised through twitter with a short link to her site. she can use something like bit.ly unless her links are not long to begin with.
With WordPress (the website your and my websites are built on) there is a plug in that will post to Facebook and Twitter as soon as a post is made to the blog.
Anyways, how does it drive you traffic?
Twitter and Facebook both work on the same principle. Followers and friends. When someone chooses to follow you on twitter, that person’s followers will see your tweets on the frieneds page. When a person decides to follow your fan page in facebook all of that person’s friends get an update saying that Joe has joined the Wig-Out (name changed) fan page.
Now 30 more people know about the website and maybe 1 or 2 new people will check it out.
Having the Twitter and Facebook also gives her a chance to connect to her customers if someone comments on one of her posts, she has to be sure to comment back! This is very important so people see that there is a person behind the business.
Query: How well do you find Twitter and Facebook work for your site?
